(Windows of Opportunity)

                          

The primary focus of Windows of Opportunity is inclusion of people with disabilities in any program or service offered by community education. Adults with disabilities participate in Adult Enrichment, the Adult Academic Program, Early Childhood Family Education, and more.

In addition, classes are offered each quarter specifically for people with disabilities. Each year Windows of Opportunity makes it possible for over 900 adults with disabilities to participate in lifelong learning activities through community education.

Program OverviewServices
To meet the needs of people with disabilities, Windows of Opportunity offers
  • class registration assistance. 
  • information on accessibility of class sites. 
  • specialized classes.  
  • sign language interpreters. 
  • note takers. 
  • volunteer aides. 
  • transportation assistance through Metro Mobility and Dial-A-Ride.
  • telecommunication device for people who are deaf or hard of hearing (TTY). 
  • information and referral.
  • individualized services as needed.
  • financial scholarships for district residents with a limited income.

  • Independent living skills
  • Social events
  • Support groups
Community Collaboration
To better meet the needs of those we serve, our staff works with community agencies and committees including:
  • Community Transition Interagency Committee. 
  • Community Education Network on Disabilities. 
  • Northwest Adaptive Recreation Consortium. 
  • West Hennepin Community Services. 
Through sharing of information and resources, Windows of Opportunity and community partners are able to plan services that enhance lifelong learning for adults with disabilities
